Today we will talk about desulfurization
Desulfurization of molten iron can reduce the amount of nodularizing agent
and the amount of sulfide slag inclusions in castings.
Almost all ductile iron production in developed countries
adopts desulfurization process,
which requires S≤0.01% after desulfurization.
Under the conditions of our country,
the target position is S≤0.02%.
Desulfurizers are divided into two categories:
CaC2 (calcium carbide) and CaO.
The desulfurization effect of CaC2 is good,
and the sulfur can be reduced from 0.04~0.06% to less than 0.01%. The scum is in the form of granules and is easy to remove.
However, it is expensive, has a high melting point,
and is limited in transportation and storage,
so it is limited to near-point supply.
The use of CaO is more common.
